COPD

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or COPD for short, is a major health issue in the UK. 900,000 adults are diagnosed with the condition, but it is estimated that as many as three million people have COPD.

COPD is known as a disease that affects the lungs. We now understand that it also affects the whole body too. Having COPD can affect the amount of nutrition and food you need.

You may need more energy and calories to keep yourself healthy, and sometimes the symptoms of your COPD can affect your diet and the amount of food you are able to eat. It’s quite common for people with COPD to struggle to make sure they’re getting the right levels of nutrition.

There are though different things you can do to make sure that your body does get the right amount of nutrition, and this may even make it easier for you to live with COPD. We’ve gathered together lots of helpful information to explain COPD, the effect it can have on your nutrition levels, and ideas to help on days when you are not feeling as well as usual.
